Deal focuses on traditional infrastructure projects.
The White House announced Thursday that President Biden had reached an agreement with a bipartisan group of lawmakers for a national infrastructure bill. The agreement focuses primarily on traditional projects such as roads, bridges, public transportation, and tunnels. If passed it would be the first major increase of federal works funding since 2009.
According to the president, “This agreement signals to the world that we can function, deliver and do significant things.” Members of his party have introduced the caveat that the bill would also need to be passed with a second larger reconciliation bill to get the president’s signature. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the addition is, “not the way to show you’re serious about getting a bipartisan outcome.”
